If you are self employed, your income tax return is not due until June 15th, but if you owe taxes, the funds are still due April 30th.
Yes, you read that right! Even though self employed individuals (and their spouses!) have an extra month and a half to get their income taxes done up and filed in Canada, they *still* have to make sure to have any taxes owing paid by April 30th! If you over pay, you will get those funds back, ofcourse. Still it does seem a bit counter-intuitive, even for CRA! More information can be found on CRA’s website here.
The term ‘Self Employed’, refers to an individual who carried on a business as a sole proprietorship, or partnership. If you are a shareholder in a corporation, this extended filing deadline does not apply to you. Though, the extended deadline for filing *is* applied to the self employed individual’s spouse or common-law partner also!
